So getting a new trans installed this weekend, got it from the wreckers from a 2011 buick lucerne with supposedly only 6500km(4038 miles) so pretty excited if that's true.
I have the transgo shift kit that's going to be installed before we put in the trans and going to do the entire shift kit since the trans is out in the open.
I am going to get the new GM rounds magnets that GM recommends, one replaces the square magnet and one goes on the filter.
Going to stay with dex 3 fluid and change fluid and filter once a year.
Going to have to threw my 3:05 gears in from the old trans since the new ones has 2:86 gears or close to that don't remember exactly.

Is there anything else I should be getting before this is done?

What year is the car you are putting this into?

I'm kinda thinking you need the external range switch moved over and ... figuring out which wires get swapped around to make the trans work on your ancient car and pray like hell.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

    Grimsin,

The factory fill on the new trans is Dex 6, so I would recommend you go that route. It's a better fluid, in my opinion worth the additional cost over Dex 3.

newer trans you mean the newer 4t65e? because id like to stay dex 3 if thats what the 4t65e's take, going to change the fluid every year and the car only gets 2200 miles a year put on the tach so the fluid will be barely broke in lol.

The 04 and 11 were both produced and shipped with Dex 6 in them.

Trans fluid is kind of expensive - I don't think there is any reason to change it every year unless you are driving like 30k miles.

The fluid I use is Caterpillar industrial drivetrain fluid mixed with Dexron III fluid, 5-6 quarts of CAT fluid and fill the rest with Dex III. It is 30wt TDTO and 5 gallon part number is "8T-9572". They also sell in 1 gallon containers but I don't have that part number. This is normally only available at CAT dealers.

When I shredded my differential this is what Dave @ Tep told me to run.. I think if you plan on making loads of power you should swap to this, otherwise Dex6
