    I have a 2000 gtp and from what I can tell performance shift lengthens out the shifts and gives me a more firm shifts which is due to increased Trans line pressure, so my question is with mpg issues aside should I constantly drive with it on because the Trans are the weak points of our cars but is constant high pressure good considering our Trans fail from overheating which I have to install a Trans cooler still but Im just wondering due to less slippage and all factors should I use performance shift 24/7?

    ive had mine constantly on with zzp's tuned in regards to their increased shift firmness, as well as transgo's shift kit. 40k still fine. knock on wood

    you can add a shift kit if you like. and or a trans tune. i got one here i can install for ya.

    a shift kit is like 45 bucks. then your also doing a trans service. so filter and 8 quarts of new tranny fluid.

    the trans tune just wakes the car up some. shifts a bit quicker firmer, locks in gear at lower speeds. has them skip shifts too.

    ive got a DHP tuner i can install that. and delete codes if you need.

    I actually just bought a filter and 8 quarts of valvoline maxlife atf i have to consider the shift kit before I service it because Im at 97k and I just want this thing to last

    the shift kit (if your not beating the crap out of it) will help it last longer. stock long smooth shifts slip the clutches. the shift kit makes em firmer/quicker. less slipping, less wear.

    Ok so how much would the total cost be? How much would you charge for install because I used to beat the living crap out of it but now I am more conscience of it, also would you recommend a Trans cooler?

    not unless your temps are real high. cant hurt tho. winter can be the only issue with the trans running to cold with one.

    the shift kit you can do yourself while you do your service, its easy enough. theres a few how to's here with pics. the kit parts are on the bottom of the trans in the pan. your already there for the filter.

    the trans tune call it 20 bucks. im not looking to get rich off anyone.


    i had the shift kit first. then added the trans tune. with perf shift off it feels better then it used to when perf shift was on before the tune. i hardly use the perf shift any more. when its on now, you know its on.

    Ok thank you I have to think everything through I have been driving with perf shift on constantly because when it would shift at times when I was driving it the rpms would jump a little before shifting not like a slip I thought mayb clogged filter but I want to remedy it before it gets out of hand, because Like I said I have beat on it for over 25,000 miles and I hope I didn't do anything too bad I got it as a first car figured something until I had money for something "cool" well 2 years later here I am with a 2006 300c with the 5.7 that I am selling because I am still in love with the Grand Prix they were just a very underated vehicle so now I want to prolong its life

    Just my thoughts, I wouldnt run cooler on a 97-03 car unless you lived in the south and drive it hard on super hot days.

    I know everycar is different but my 00 gtp rarely got above 170-180º on hot days in the summer.

    Even when my stock trans had 270k on it I rarely ever saw temps over 175*. Adding a trans cooler will only increase the likelyhood that you will have a leak somewhere.

    04-08 must be different because driving down the highway no ac windows down on an hour road trip my temps were at 200+ wasnt beating on it. I used cruise control. I added a cooler in the summer I constantly check for leaks but my car sitting in traffic now for an hour on a 90 degree day. Won't go above 190 and in the winter I have no problems. So far it's hit 147 then when I hit a cruising spot will settle at 135
