Hey all,
My 2004 is my boring DD, not looking to top swap or anything like that yet, but figured I could make it a little more fun by changing the final drive.
This car has the differential that makes the final drive 3.05, rather than the 3.29 you may be familiar with. I believe this was a change made in 2004 to improve fuel economy. Essentially the same as the N/A Regal diff, from what I gather.
My thought is, if I go to the junkyard, grab an HD diff and axle, I can swap out the current diff on my car with the HD diff, which would net me 3.29 like the regular GT guys. I suppose a regular GT diff would be good enough, but it's all the same to the junkyard sales people, so why not upgrade?
Also have HPT, so gear ratio change tuning is no problem.
Question is, is this something that can be done with relative ease while the transmission is in the car? There was a write-up on it on another forum, but all the photo links had expired, so I'm not really sure what I'm getting into. Thoughts?
