I have been doing a ton of reading on this subject due to the awful max adapt banging of my transmission and finally decided to give it a go and install the transgo shift kit. This may be a "band-aid" but i am quite the cheapskate so this had my name all over it

    1. First of all..This kit works... all banging has stopped 100%.. it has been 2 weeks and no banging at all..

    2. My car is a 2005 with 190k miles so after i disconnect the battery to reset the computer, i notice a few things that may have been there but probably did not notice due to my focus on the max adapt. It will occasionally flare on the 2-3 shift for a day or 2 after resetting the battery and then seems to figure itself out and only flare a lil once in a while (and thats only if i try to make it do it in a sense). I also occasionally would have a slip when accelerating from a stop, kindoff like a neutral rev then slam into gear or a binding of sorts if taking a corner..it still does that but it has been reduced...I also added some lucas stop slip fluid as well which i believe helps...On a side note..anyone who says Lucas stop slip is not good, i only want to say this. I had a 1987 camaro Iroc a long time ago and after doing a transmission pan drop with new fluid and filter it simply would not shift out of first gear, no matter what i did it would not shift. I bought a bottle of the lucas and my gears immediately came back like nothing had happened, the stuff does work in some instances.

    3. I initially decided to do the homemade kit with just the plastic spacers(shims)..2 weeks later when i went to install the metal spacers and springs from transgo, the plastic spacers all had been smooshed flat!!!...get metal spacers!!!...

    4. I used 3 springs (black, red, white) in the bottom of each accumulator bore and bought the upper spring of the 2-3 portion to put in the 1-2 accumualtor portion to make them identical (this spring was bought at the dealer for like $8) i also bought a metal shim at loews ($1.22) to match the 2-3 upper shim that comes with the kit.

This can be time consuming and messy your first time but it is beyond worth it to stop the banging or anxiety of waiting for the banging to begin. All shifts a pretty much quick and smooth no matter if the the car is cold or warmed up, no roughness at all. I highly recommend it, i got mine for $41.77 on ebay + fluid and filter.

    Thanks
