About 12-14 quarts is normal. Remember you have to fill up that large converter.
12-14 is for a completely dry trans so you shouldnt need that much to top it off. There is an anti-drainback checkball in the cooler feed circuit in the trans to prevent converter oil from all draining out when the car is not running so most of it is retained. Shift kit installs typically require about 8-10 quarts depending on how long it was apart and how much leaked out once you removed the accumulator body so you are fine.
Ok thanx guys!
