my 99 buick regal gs has a problem with tranny slipping in od and i think in 3rd somtimes.. it wont do it if the car is cold but after it warms up if im just driving and step in the gas a bit, it will slip for a sec then catch and go.. also at cruising speed it seems like it shifts alot between 3rd and OD.. so what im asking is. Is there anyway to fix this w/o a rebuild some soliniod or somthing i have already changed the filter. anyone have any ideas?

Your first problem you mention when you give it gas and it wants to rev and then grab is a pretty common problem and there is info on my info page link on the bottom but the common cause is a worn input clutch piston inner sealing surface and also a worn boost valve in the valve body. An additive may help but is just a bandaid fix. Low pressure can also cause these problems. How many miles are on it? How does the fluid condition and level appear? Not sure about shifting a lot between 3rd and 4th but may just be TCC turning on and off in 4th gear and that is what you are feeling or noticing watching the tach. Has it always done this or is it a new problem that has popped up? The only way to know for sure if the shift cycling is a trans problem or not is to very the operation with a scan tool that shows transmission data and watching what the pcm commands for current gear and tcc operation.

A rebuild or replacement is pretty much your only options especially with 180K miles on the trans. Repair is not out of the question but the problem with these transmissions is that you are really limited with any in car repair to the trans and you are going to have to do some internal work to find and fix the problem.
