Hey guys, I was looking through some posts on here and I see a lot about how weak the transmissions are one these cars. I was just wondering if anyone could tell me how much power can the trans on an 06 Grand prix gt supercharged can handle (100k). Thanks.

Hard to say.. Some guys will have tranny problems well before 100k. It's just something that you know can happen and prepare yourself for when it does. I think luck plays a big part as well as how you beat on the car.. Keep the trans temp within reason, don't beat on it and add a shift kit and do a pan drop.

luck plays a huge part IMO, I've seen people pop trannies with a mostly stock setup.. yet I have two friends, one with a stock rebuilt holding up to 330 whp setup and the other with a bone stock 120k mile trans holding up to 400+ whp turbo setup... but those are both ticking time bombs.

A tune will help but don't expect it to save your life.

a "built" for HP tranny will run you upwards of 3 grand. if not more depending on some of the parts. good parts aint cheap.

stock rebuild 1500 to 2000 at your local shop.

98 Buick Regal GS, F body brakes, Caddy STS wheels, tinted tails L36 bottom end, lightly ported heads, 1.95 roller rockers, headers, gen 5 N* 3.0 pulley, FSIC, 42 lb injectors, a BrandonHall rebuilt trans, DHP tuned and AEM water/Meth injection https://goo.gl/gpV5kW

yeah, dont put a turbo on it lol

truth is if you drive it like a adult and dont beat the snot out of it daily every time you fire it up, the trans should last some time.

turbo's are just tranny killers tho, the way the power comes on is way stronger then a supercharged engine.

what if you can do the rebuild yourself? My dad is an ASE master tech, and a GM pro, what does it cost in parts to build a good tranny?

There's no such thing as a "good" 4T65...you're just extending its detonation time. People have spend a few thousand dollars in parts alone to have one that'll hold up for awhile.

Few things. I am the guy snow was talking about with the turbo setup on a stock trans...

    1) If your smart with how you drive even at WOT it'll last longer than you think but not much past where I am now
    2) A moderate build will run 3-4K
    3) My build has cost me 5-6K and I am doing all the labor by my self.. with labor would have tipped around 8-10k
I have a 1in GMR Chain (1500$), an Aramet 1200 input shaft (800$), TEP Stage 2 kit (1000), other misc stuff in it
    4) Sven your wrong. If you get a full GMR setup and run 500whp itll last forever.
    5) If you have the resources DIY it.. itll save you a bunch. Get the kit from TEP and go nuts.

Aaron not forever, you'll still burn through most of the clutches in 20-40k miles on a 500 whp all gmr setup.

Get a cartuning or sonnex billet 3rd gear clutch hub, and that will take care of a lot of the problems. But, there are still other things that can break. I've spent years and lots of time acquiring all the trans parts I've got, trying to make it bulletproof...but it's not entirely possible. Sure, you can make it a lot stronger, but not indestructible.

That being said, I ran a few 11 second passes on a stock transmission, and lots of deep 12 second passes. The guy from Canada went 11.0 on a stock trans as well.

From what I have found, the best way to keep them alive, is to keep it from spinning and keep the shifts soft.
