W-Body store is worthless, and ZZP's shift kit is just cheaply made. The only one worth getting is a Thrasher or a Intense kit.

The Transgo kits I use are not performance oriented but can be altered to have firmer shifts. I accomplish firmer shifts with the Transgo kits and internal mods but that means trans removal and teardown. The Intense and Thrasher kits are the better ones to go with if you wont selectability and much firmer shifts. Custom tuning makes a big difference also.

sounds good! Thanks for the help guys! I wasn't very comfortable with the idea of putting just spacers in but I've only had the gtp for a couple months, still used to german cars so I wanted to make sure!

How are the Intense or Thrasher kits more "performance oriented"? Do you just mean they will allow for a harder shift? I would like to get a shift kit, but I would rather go on the mild side, just maybe quicken the shifts up, not a hard race shift if you know what I mean......

They have the option of making a much firmer shift than the other kits, and considering the fact they're not made out of plastic is always a plus.

Always thought putting plastic parts in the transmission was a stupid idea. Not to mention with the Intense shift kit set up on 'Race' mode it'll literally pop the dash and try to break your neck going into each gear.

I'm in the middle of installing a full TransGo kit. After seeing the puny stock springs, well, I just don't see how the kit won't make firmer shifts. Look at what I'll be adding.
First pic-on the left is stock springs, the right is TransGo. Second pic--TransGo on the left vs. stock accumulator spring for 1-2 and 2-3. Third pic--TransGo vs. stock (yellow springs) 3-4 accumulator springs.

Nope it is pretty much a "rebuilder" type kit that is meant to install while the trans is out but you can install the 1-2 and 2-3 accumulator parts with the trans in the car. We sell american Filtran filters for $10.95

in my old tbird, the trans for that car had a few shift kits avalaible, full valvebodys, but the one plus was on the forum was one of the guys who worked for ford and designed that trans, knew all the flaws and develped his own with no report of any kind of trans failure, one of the things they did to get neck snapping shifts was remove the 1-2 spring entirely as well as drilling the seperator plates. rubber melting shifts with chiropractic care, is that an option for these cars as well, or would not having the 1-2 spring in the fwd transaxle cause more harm than good.

For the sake of showing the difference in the Performance Shift Kits....Here they are....

    The Thrasher $89+/-

    The Intense Shift Kit $129+/-

    ZZP's Shift Kit $30+/-

    Wbody's Shift Kit $20+/-

I dont have good pictures of the Transgo Kit so I can't compare it to the others listed above..

As you can see with the Thrasher and the Intense Kits, they have all the goodies, I can only assume the Transgo will have similar type materials in their kit.

The Wbody store's shift kit picture is basically FALSE ADVERTISING. The kit they ship only comes with 4 PLASTIC washers and nothing else (not even any instructions)! The ZZP Kit is hard to read what actually it comes with, but I am guessing it is gonna be similar to that of the Wbody kit. Both are NOT worth the hassel IMO.

I hope this gives you some idea what each kit has and doesn't have.

If somebody just does the 1-2 and 2-3 shift and did not do the 3-4 shift would that cause potential problems? It seems the 1-2 and 2-3 shift would be firm while the 3-4 shift would be slow.

I don't see why you would want to do that anyways. Either you do it all or none. Or just set the shift kit to medium of soft. But only doing one, I can not see anything productive coming from that.

Will it cause problems? Only Trannyman can probably answer that one correctly.

It won't cause problems to do just the 1-2 and 2-3. You don't really need a firmer shift at WOT during the 3-4 shift. How fast is that? Well, with my 3.69 FDR, I shift at 5000 rpm at about 110 mph. With a 3.29 that would be about 123 mph, and since you guys usually shift at 5800-6000 rpm, that would make it about 145 mph. Usually, when driving, the 3-4 shift in most cases isn't much over 30-40% tps, and that's more of a highway acceleration shift. So you won't be getting into much more line pressure for a firmer shift. I already have the side cover, valve body, and channel plate off, so no big deal to throw in the 3-4 revisions.
