If you set codes 1811 and the gear ratio code, it shouldn't bang into gears. Then just do the diff. Although.. the diff will only take you an hour at this point. All the bolts will come loose easy

It hasn't set 1811 yet.
Should I just do the diff or try to get the numbers off both trans cases? (sorry bill.. i'm just tired of wrenching on cars.. I work on computers during the day lol).
Yeah Buck.. I know what you mean.
Numbers off cases won't tell you much. Swapping the diff should fix it w/o a question.
Well my dumbass should have swapped the diffs when they were sitting side by side outside the car (FAILLLLLLL).
I was going to try to swap the diff last night but gave up.
I'll see if i can get a hold of Big Jeff (he moved back to Columbus) or someone else. Hopefully they won't charge too much to do it.
I was able to get the tag off the trans in the car (pryed it off with a screw driver lol). 619YCB. The one that was originally in the car is 619APB if that even matters.
Buck.. I have swapped 04-08 transmissions into Impalas from GP's, Bonnevilles and even other GM stuff. The key has been to swap the diff. I've also been in your position of doing it in car.
Jack up just the driverside and support
Pop balljoint 18mm wrench
remove axle nut and axle 34mm/36mm socket
Remove engine to diff bracket 4 x 13mm socket or wrench
Remove other two 13mm for diff cover to come off
Hit diff pin/output shaft with hammer to split it off
Pull DS inner cv back and wedge something between it's cup and the trans (pulls output shaft out of your way)
reach in, pull parking gear out and the bearing that fell behind it.
Grease bearing to park gear and reinstall
put new diff with sungear in place and wiggle til it goes in
Sit cover on and ensure that it 100% percent sits perfectly flush and up against the trans case. (which is should since you gooped that bearing to the park gear)
Put cover back on
Put bracket back on
Put ps axle back in
Go to DS and remove your spacer
Give the DS axle a few shoves to seat the output shaft into the diff
Finish putting your passenger side together and smile that the code is gone.
Well we ended up changing the gear ratio in the PCM (it worked). however now 2nd gear slips REALLY bad and shudders when the converter locks up in 3rd.
FAIL. I'm done pissing around with it. I'm going to keep the car, put it on the side of the driveway and my son is going to pick up another car this weekend. I'll work with it later and turn into "Race Smurf" over the summer and pull the motor/trans and have the one that was originally in his car rebuilt.
FWIW Buck, I went through hell with my Bonneville and trying to get the gear ratio right by programming. It's a real pain in the butt until you become a genius and do the math perfectly and even then.. if the planets aren't aligned it's tough.
Yeah it took a good 3 hours to figure it out. Not sure what his name is on here (Chavo?) was able to figure it out. Didn't throw the incorrect gear ratio code but a day later 2nd gear was slipping and other crap.
We ended up doing the calculations on a trial version of HP tuners and moved that over to tiny Tuner and then flashed it via PT.
oh well. my son wanted a different car anyways lol. His money.. not mine.
