Hello I am hoping anyone can help me get an idea of what may be wrong with my tranny. I have a 99 Grand Prix 3800 series II not supercharged, about a month ago when it was really cold about -20 below i started my car shifted into reverse, shifted then into drive and the engine will rev up but will not move. My brother who is mechanically inclined checked the fluid, it is bright red, no deposits, not burnt smelling. Prior to this it shifted perfect, no indications that there were any kind of issues. He also checked the shift cable and mechanism on top of the tranny it was working fine. It has no gears, not even 1, 2, or 3. He also dropped the pan to see if there was any chunks on the pan, or deposits and it looks fine the filter was in place. If anyone has any information on what it may be and how much the repair cost are any input would be great.

Sounds like a failed forward band/servo. Time for a rebuild.

Sorry forgot to mention that it doesnt go into reverse either, it will not engage in any gears, not sure if that changes the diagnosis or not

A failed forward band would allow for 1-2 gears to work on the shifter.

Make sure the clip going onto the transmission for shift cable is still attached.

If that is fine, likely something internal is bad.

Hmmm...no gears whatsoever. Going to be pump, input shaft, output shaft, axle, sheered diff pin...something. Without being able to check personally those are the things I think of off the top of my head
