    2005 GP GT

So I bought this car at 113k Miles and I don't think the trans fluid was ever changed. I didn't get around to changing the fluid till about 116k Miles on it. I used Castral Dex/Merc trans fluid 7 1/2 quarts in my car. On the back of the bottle it said 2005 and prior years which is Dex 3 I believe. A few months ago my trans was shifting weird like when it was about to shift it would be a few seconds then shift "long shift" this was before I changed fluid in my transmission. The other day on my way to work and on my way back to home my trans was acting really funny. I would drive it just over 2.4k RPMs then when it was about to shift it would rev up to about 3k RPMs. I checked my fluid and it was fine so I waited till the next day to drive it. Next day it shifts normal no issue whats so ever but now im worried. I'm not sure how the trans is suppose to shift like butter or if it should jerk a tiny bit.

If I plan on getting my transmission rebuilt do I should need a rebuild kit and converter or anything other parts? Also whats the going rate for transmission rebuilds?
    Thanks!

Well all shifts are supposed to be pretty quick on a 4t65e. There's a lot of room in between normal shifts, and really long shifts like you mentioned, and it may be somewhere in between all the time that you think of as normal. I'd say post a video of your "normal" shifts and try to get a video when it acts up if you can.

Technically a trans I believe 04 or 05 and up should have Dexron VI in it. The stuff you used was dex III but since you mentioned the problems occurred before changing, it's not the cause.

Maybe it was 06, it's weird how they changed it 4 years into production of the new designed 4t65e. Apparently you can run either without problems. If it acted different but still had problems before I still don't think changing the fluid really caused anything. For the normal shifts you only need maybe a few accelerations to at least 40. That's 1-2-3-lockup so that's fine.

I don't think you can find just dex III anymore. I's always a dex/merc in III. So no choice there. 6 is no prob.

Yeah I never saw just Dex 4 at any auto place its usually dex/merc now. I looked at my 2005 GP manual and it calls for Dex 3 which is whats in the trans now so hopefully i'll be fine!

You will. I use dex III (3) in mine which happens to be dex/merc. No problems, with the other things I did it's working better than before.
