Oh..and if you go in for the EPC.. You might as well fix the 4th clutch hub.

thanks guys, i think i'll go with the shift kit. I have an automotive background so it should be a breeze.
whats up with the 4th clutch hub? is that a common thing? still new here to the 4t65e lol
97-02 (and early production 03) had a non hardened 4th clutch hub. So the splines wear and you lose 4th at some point. That point is a moving target though..I've had many 180K+ 4T65's that had 4th gear w/o any issues. The replacement part is a heat treated aka hardened part.
On that shift kit. Drop your 20 10mm pan bolts, pull a few 8mm bolts and the accumulator is in your hands. Pull a few more 8mm's and a few minutes the kit it in and you are putting the accumulator back in the car. Toss in your new filter and the pan. Refill.. done.
Shift kit is a piece of cake!! I did mine a couple weeks back. Piece of cake and my trans loves me for it!!! Go TransGo. it's great for daily driving with the occasional WOT runs!!
instead of all this downshift talk, i have a question, ive had bad luck on both my GP's, both GTP and ever since i bought the car from my buddy, it shifts hard into 4th, like you can watch the rpms go up with the clutch opens and then the car will jerk and you can feel it as it shifts, its a big shift, no codes, not a big annoyance but obviously not normal, any ideas?
is it cause the TC locks as soon as it shifts when you're cruising around 1.8k rpms
hmm, well it doesnt bother me too much but another thing i just experienced tonight, driving from a stop and... only.. sometimes.. shifting into 2nd, it is a harder shift but then different pressure of gas and it will shift into 2nd very smooth and same with 3rd. so im thinking fluid maybe for starters. cause on my first gtp, i flushed the fluid cause it was shifting weird into 2nd as well but it was like a wobbly bouncing continuing shift as for this is just a hard shift, after i flushed it, it never did it again
