I have a 98 Grand Prix. It's automatic. When I start it first thing in the mornings it shifts very hard when I put it in reverse. There is this horrible bumping noise like something has hit the car. It doesn't do this for the rest of the day. If I let the car warm up a bit it's not as bad. I am new to the site and hope I have posted in the correct place. Thanks for any help you can give me!

My best guess is that you have a bad engine or trans mount. The reason why it is worse in the morning is because when you start your car up in the morning it's cold so your idle is higher and when you put your car into gear there is more torque to make the engine and trans move, thus creating the "crash bang" sound that you are referring to. Let us know what the problem was. Good luck!!

you never wanna just start and go in the morning. I let mine warm up a bit and let it get rid of the cotton mouth(gettin the oil flowin). then again..I baby the hell out of my car.
    My car doesn't leak oil,
    It marks it's territory.
