i ordered and had one of trannyman's rebuilt trannies done on my car along with a 1"GM chain and 300M input shaft with 3.29 gears. i changed/uploaded the corresponding gear ratios as well as lowered the mph for each gear. no DTCs and the car just went passed 70miles of break-in period. i started getting on it gradually once i got near 80miles on the tranny. i noticed at 75mph my RPMs at just under 3000RPMs with the TCC unlocked and at cruising speeds of 12% at 65mph the RPM's at just under 2400. does that sound right for those who has 3.29s?

also i followed trannyman's advice and bypassed the tranny lines that use to go through the OEM rad then to my GM auxilary cooler to just the GM cooler alone. i noticed earlier today i had gotten on the throttle quite a bit, not 100% throttle, but occasional 80% on the freeway and noticed my tranny temps were already in the 215-220*F o_0? i guess the GM auxilary tranny cooler's not effective enough or something else is wrong with ths picture? i just heard ppl say that high mileage rads tend to leak and coolant would get sucked into the tranny lines and eventually destroy the tranny itself. bare in mind the OEM radiator is the original radiator with 156K miles on it. should i replace the radiator and go back to have the tranny fluid route through the rad then to the auxialry tranny cooler again?

btw-thanks for tannyman and his tranny, i like it so far. havent done any from a dig nor went 100% throttle yet.

That sounds about right for 3.29's. But since the GMR Chain only comes in 3.29 then you really didn't have a choice anyway lol.

That temp especially for highway sounds kinda high. Usually I don't see over like 202* in the city getting on it like crazy...over and over again.

And that's with the stock '' In radiator Cooler ''

I would be conserned with those temps if I were you.

Where do you have it mounted. Maybe that has something to do with it.

should i route the the tranny lines both through the radiator and the cooler again to retain the cooling affect?

Some will argue and say what's the point if you have an aftermarket cooler installed.

What I am personally going to do is find a way to mount a hayden cooler in front of the radiator (keep in mind my intercooler will be there so some fab work and a little thinking will be required.) and put a electric fan (I can get a 1250 cfm fan brand new for dirt cheap) in front of it pushing air through it.

I have thought of putting one in a custom location and not in the direct path of the normal air movement through the front of the car but if my fan would go out for some reason then i would fry my tranny more than likley.

Although I am getting a trans temp gauge soon so I may be able to do something like that. Just as long as i can keep an eye on things.

A set up like I am thinking of with the fan should keep the trans temps under 130 at all times I would think.

I was planning on wiring the fan up to where it would just stay on all the time.

I am a frozenboost dealer and can get you everything they have for 10% off. So if you need a fan let me know.

yea i was also thinking about mounting a small fan somewhere in front of the gm external/auxilary cooler(also mounted in front of the radiator) but couldn find one that was slim enough to fit in between the cooler and the front-back bumper. i was thinkgin about tapping in the wires off the factory radiator fans, as well but thats still up in the air. HDRacing, let me know on what size fans you have as well as pricing as im not really want to spend alot of money on a setup like this. i think the spacing where i have mine(on the driver-side of where the middle metal support hanger lies) is approximately 10-11" wide and prolly 5-6" spacing between the cooler and the front-back bumper.

How big size-wise is the cooler you have? Those temps are way to high with just a remote cooler and it shouldnt be running any over 170ish. The Hayden coolers I use are pn 1405 and are a 26K gvw rating and unless in hot summer traffic, AC on, or lots of hard driving the temps are often in the 160-180 range year round.

its the gm auxiliary cooler found on pfyc.com or paceperformance parts. Rated at about 20K GVW
    pfyc.com

one thing i did not change from the tcc table is that i had the tcc unlock in 4th gear performance shift from 0-12.75% at 40mph. would causing the tcc to unlock and lock over an extended period of time(especially with 3.29s now) cause the tranny temps to rise alot more than usual? i since upped the 4th tcc unlock to 18.75% at 40mph.

edit-i havent gotten on the car yet since the reflash but i'll let u guys know what i come up with. also the outside temps when i saw the high temp spike was in 45*F weather.

If the converter is fairly loose feeling and it isnt locked up it will cause the temps to be higher but maybe the cooler isnt working well enough on its own in addition to this. Even when its 80 outside you should be seeing temps that high. Something else to ask-are these trans temps from an aftermarket gauge or scanner? Putting a temp sensor in the pressure tap plug on the case is not accurate at all and I often find the temps to read about 30-40 deg too hot after everything warms up as there is a lot of heat soak from the exhaust in this area.

the temperature reading is based on my LS1M which reads from the PCM. where the PCM reads the temp i do not know. maybe i'll have to route the tranny fluid through the radiator again at some point, but also plan on replacing the 156K mile one for good measure?

TDCRacing, the one i have is the one i posted above, with the picture which is a GM auxilary trans cooler. if no one has an idea of the dimensions i'll try to get a measurement of the cooler.

okay just got back from a test drive. eddie battner was kind enough to also give me another bin file that had a 50% tcc min apply increase while i was currently using a 20% increase. the difference was noticeable where while cruising at say 80mph at a constant tps % of between 10-13% the RPMs were ~2450-2490 andwhen i was running with 20% increase in the tcc min apply the RPMs were ~3000RPMs. im glad i took a few of you guy's advice to switch ot the increase in the tcc min apply so i can get some more gas mileage haha.

also what i noticed was that i cant seem to get the 4-2 downshift with my current setup if im going at freeway speeds. im using the downshift settings from a stock L36. can anyone give me some pointers on the mph and table(s) to have the tranny kick-down from 4th to 2nd gear as well as 3rd to 1st please?

damojo, i took it from a slow roll at ~20-25mph and it felt great and i got barely no KR in between teh shifts whereas on the stock tranny oddly, i'd get knock? right now its running the 3.1" pulley with 21* of timing FWIW
