So this car has been what I would call a b**** when it comes to transmissions. currently on its third transmission sitting at my parents house I cannot drive it. It sits in any gear as if it were in neutral. The problem started out on christmas night last month when the RPMs around 60+ mph started kinda jumping from 2000 to 2300 or so, Surging I guess you could call it. I had hoped that night it would go away, But by the next two days it started doing this same problem only at 35mph, except shaking more violently. The car shifted fine, and the harder I pressed the throttle down the better the trans shifted. Only did it when there was a load on the engine. So as I was hoping that it was a spark issue I decided to change plugs and wires. It didn't go away I let my dad keep it for a couple days because I didn't have the time to work with it and he is retired. I had purchased a set of coil packs to throw on it and before we got the chance to put it on I believe that is when the trans really started to get problems. My dad was driving the car and stopped pulling. Rpms would go up after a few minutes of driving, As if it was in neutral. He would then shut it down let it cool off and start it and keep driving for another 5 minutes. Repeat until he made it home. I tried to drive it myself before making it to my street where now as it sits, It will not shift at all. you can not feel anything as you go from park to reverse to drive. My question is, whats the chance I could be looking at a tcc, or some other solenoid, And is the tcc and pressure control solenoid the same thing. I am half tempted to take this apart myself and replace these. Im postive I can do it, See as how I just replaced a timing belt in a POS neon. If I decide to go with another trans I will do rebuilt, Nor more pos hand me downs where I don't know whats happened in 80k miles.

    Little history on the car.

Purchased last february when trans went out after 2 weeks of owning and decided to put another trans in the car from a 97-98 or so SC rivera, Trans supposedly had 58k miles on it at the time and have only put about 10k on the car since I have had it.

Okay each time you replaced the trans did you use the same torque converter?

Each time? Or only the first time? If the torque converter is bad it can wreck another trans, and could be the reason you have gone through 2 more since the first replacement.

I bought the car on its second trans, found the 3rd trans and replaced the torque converter while I was having the transmission replaced.

After reading up on it more, I might just be in for getting the trans rebuilt, Im gonna do the labor myself seeing as I have to replace the rack also. (leaking badly)

From the sound of you being able to let it cool down and drive it further, that might be a bad input piston seal (common enough) or a clogged filter. Either way, both would require the trans come apart and be gone through for nearly a full rebuild.

ok awesome thanks bill. Although I'm not looking forward to the expense. I am looking forward to doing this myself. Just recently I have learned how to replace the a.c. Compressor and heater core as well as a timing belt. Feel like iv caught a repair bug.
