I know I am new here but i know how forums work i have been a member of GAGT and newcelica for about 2 years. So please no nubbie pun.

I just purchased a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix base model. It has about 120k miles on it and has a very strange transmission problem. It will shift smooth and comfortable and never slip or shift hard. But if you get on it hard it will shift from 1st to 2nd as it is supposed to but then will not shift to any other gear until you let off the throttle then it will shift hard into gear and you can continue on. What may be causing this? NO SES lights.

I was going to drop the pan and check for metal shavings and if none are present change the fluid and filter. Good idea or bad?

Thank you to anyone that may be able to help.

What kind of mileage on it?

Sounds like you might be seeing some slip from the 3rd clutches.

It has to be from a new model. There were differences in the internal wiring and also slight changes in the valve body.

PCM tune and a new (different) PCM because you can't change anything on 06-08 cars.

The HD trans is not better, it just have a few different parts and completely different gear ratio.

You are going to have to find a 04+ base model transmission. I think the 04-05 GT NA cars even have the same as yours too, if you end up needing to replace it.

Ok. I have done an engine swap before and rebuilt a manual transmission so i have a pretty good idea what i am doing on cars. On a scale of 1 to 10 how hard is it to pull the transmission in these cars?

1-10 for who? I think it's a 2 personally because it's counter clockwise loosens bolts and clockwise tightens them. Others would disagree.

I wrote up a how to on trans swaps. If you search the word "ea sy" without the space and my user name, you should be able to find that and other write ups every quickly. Take a read through. Although as you can assume by the word I suggested you search one...I think all these things are eeasy. It's just some time and effort.
