I think this is transmission, but it's just an educated guess so mods please move as necessary.
While accelerating sometimes my car makes a whirring sound similar to an electric motor. It sounds like a blower at times, though somewhat quieter and generally goes away at higher rpms. The sound follows the rpms in intensity while accelerating, but doesn't do this all the time, though it has become more frequent as have some of my other transmission issues lately.

Trans fluid is full, though it looks like used oil. Filter change coming soon, but I'd like to know if this is a sign of a bigger problem or if it's just normal.

    My GT sounded like that.

    Everything worked.

    Probably accessories or power steering.

Just tell everyone it is supercharged.

Whine from a trans is typically a clogged filter and the pump having trouble pulling fluid through it. If you have whine from the trans.. likely it won't last a very long time.

What other trans issues are you having that you kinda mention w/o telling us details?
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Well, hopefully the filter change will cure that issue. ...Right?

Other problems are I'm guessing typical of a 173k mile trans with no maintenance; shifts come a bit late some of the time and every now and then it will shift back and forth for a second before it decides where it wants to be. I'm hoping it'll last another year and I'll get a built trans, if not, well...
