So i'm missing 4th gear on my car. Im assuming its the 4th gear clutch hub splines have stripped out since they weren't hardened/heat treated from the factory. I can get the hub with hardened splines for about 50 bucks which i didn't think was too bad but the question is weather or not i have to pull the tranny to replace it. I'm hopeing i can just pull the side cover off and pull the chain, pump, wiring and valve body off and pull this thing out and slide the new one in. It looks do-able but i'm just wondering if anyone has tried this before and if it has worked.

View topic - Illustrated 4T65E Rebuild : PontiacBonnevilleClub.com This is where i got the idea from i could do it in the car otherwise if i can't i figured ill just replace the whole tranny with an HD i want to do a top swap eventually or go turbo so it would probably be a good idea to have a stroger trans anyways..... Local Junkyard i can get one for about 125 dollars if they have one

Only difference between the HD trans and gt trans is the HD differential and the Hd trans haslike 2.9x gear ratio compared to 3.29

Whats the difference in the differential? Limited slip or just stronger?

JoRoW99 ......I see you have a top swap what are you running for your transmission?

Stock transmission. I dont think the HD is a limited slip. The passenger axle is also different so you'd need the one from the HD car.
