so i blew up my trans in the car... took it to a shop and the guy rebuilt a trans and threw it in my car(not original trans)... then he says it has a shift problem and screws with it for a week... finally he told me to pick the car up hes done working on it... car runs great but there is no manual 1st and it takes off in second when in drive... other then that it runs great...

there is a vibration when i floor it when its in the right gear but i feel that is a bad halfshaft that has been going bad(guessing)...

im guessing no first is a solenoid the guy was to lazy to replace or the pcm... any other ideas before i take it to another shop.... luckly this guy didnt charge me a penny or id be super pissed

In that case, guess you can't complain too much.

free re built trans, installed? ok im game lol

i think you need to find out if the gears from the new trans match the old trans, if not you may need to have your pcm tuned for the new gears.

so maybe you think your in 2 nd, but really 1 st due to higher gears.

what gets me is in the GM hydromatic 4t65e tech guide book there isnt many problems that go from 1st gear in drive and relate to 1st gear in manual...

    i have
    manual valve(404)/ shift linkage-misaligned
servo cover(104) broken, loose or leaking

then (what my guess is) the pcm...

Manual valve and servo cover are likely suspects the more I read. PCM doesn't do much in manual first. Nothing more than what it does in D.

ok after further reserch ive found there is no 4th

    reflashing the ecu didnt help

    i commanded 1st with nothing

then i manually grounded the terminal to comand 1st with nothing

now with knowing 4th is gone to im going with it being the 1-2, 3-4 shift solenoid...

Halfway down, read teh shift soleniod pattern.
    4T65E Tech Info

Tells you that the 1-2 soleniod is likely not functioning properly.

I think this would also tell you the same plus more
