I remember changing the feed and return fittings on the 03+ transmission to get it to work with my 01 lines and cooler, like mentioned above. I browsed through it, but I believe you can't really get the checkballs wrong unless you do one-off parts. They changed the size of the fitting containing the checkball on the newer transmissions with the built in checkball. So the older fitting will not work on the newer and the newer won't work on the older fitting. I don't know about switching the actual lines over and the design differences or any benefit.

Ok, so by pulling your VIN# you should have the old style 01/04 like you said. It narrows down to needing the following parts to replace what you car should have. Which unless you have a drive to just replace parts with a newer design, the 1st design should work flawlessly, the difference is negligible. Full aftermarket tranny cooler with bigger S/S Braided lines would be the only beneficial change to the current setup.

    OEM Replacements are as follows:
    Connectors on Tranny
    #24236555 (3/8 x 18 NPS) Long - 13.80
    #24233366 (1/4 x 18 NPS) Short - 16.50
    Hoses
    #20793004 Inlet - 46.05
    #20793005 Outlet - 44.91
    Connector on Radiator
    #52481097 (x2) - 25.35ea

If you want to replace everything for the 2nd design, you would need to replace everything from the fittings on the tranny to the radiator, but again, the difference is negligible, so If it were me I wouldn't bother, just replace the parts with the OEM Replacements if it is leaking and put money into more power adders.

Yeah, I think an external tranny cooler would be best at that point, and upon rereading yoru bulletin, it does specifically state that 2/04+ fittings will not fit pre 2/04 trannies, and then it goes on to say checkballs were removed rom the newer ones, so yeah, I'll definitely forget the 2nd design thing. Do you happen to know the part#s to the police impalas external tranny coolers and such (if they existed back then)?
