morads would be a good start, im sure it would be less than a thousand bucks, or if you can spare a few hundred more you could have it rebuilt.

98 Buick Regal GS, F body brakes, Caddy STS wheels, tinted tails L36 bottom end, lightly ported heads, 1.95 roller rockers, headers, gen 5 N* 3.0 pulley, FSIC, 42 lb injectors, a BrandonHall rebuilt trans, DHP tuned and AEM water/Meth injection https://goo.gl/gpV5kW

Im trying to stray away from rebuilt just beacuse of the cost, if i can find a decent one for under 1000 i'll put a shift kit in it and recondition it myself. the one i have now recently started acting up and the best case scenario is i can buy one, build it alittle bit, then put it in the car. Any suggested ways to make the transmission more durable other than a shift kit?

If' it's for an 04 and you get an 04+ trans, then it'll have the hardened 4th clutch. You could reline the clutches and ensure they don't have huge amounts of clearnace in the baskets, maybe redo the issue areas of the valve body etc.

full rebuild with all the upgraded parts, will cost you around 1200 to 1400 (maybe less) if the trans is out of the car and dropped off, no install labor.

if you can pull your own trans and get it to some one, 2 to 4 hundred more than you want spend is money well spent. vs a used trans, just saying if you have a grand to lay down, go all the way.
