My tranny is starting to slip at 104000 miles. I'm wondering if I should just go ahead and buy a used 4t65e hd tranny and build it myself (have taken a couple tranny's apart and put back together) and put the necessary parts in so I can run a zzp turbo setup later or I just buy a upgraded tranny. Money is a factor. What parts can I just do myself and what should I send out to get done

Its not like my tranny is going to go any day now but I rather start building one now than later.

I personally would recommend looking into trannys from Triple Edge Performance - Home Page Dave builds some really killer trannys for much less than the competition. As far as doing it yourself, if you were just going for a stock rebuild, then yes, do it yourself. But there are so many tricks and tid-bits that you need to do with these trannys to make them hold up to real HP, that I would suggest having someone that knows what they are doing rebuild it.

But of course, just my $.02

Yeah your probabley right. With a turbo kit I'm hopefully going to be running somewhere around 400hp so messing up with building it would really suck.

I gotta go with Zef on this one. I just put one in my car last week that Dave built for me.....and I have no words to even begin to describe it, but the SEG speaks for itself....and the screaming passengers in my car when I went for a test drive. LOL

You absolutely can NOT beat one of Dave's transmissions. They are built per application, and they flat out don't fail.

I'd have to agree...Though my rebuild was successful and the tranny is working fine, in hindsight, I'd have been money ahead just ordering a rebuilt unit from Dave...I had him rework the valvebody anyway.
