    Hey forum,

I would like to give you all a bit of a backstory to get you up to speed. I have been hearing a whining noise coming from under the hood that gets louder as the engine speed increases the engine is naturally aspirated so I know its not a supercharger. Anyway i finally got sick of hearing it so i checked the transmission fluid thinking that was part of the problem when cold the trans. fluid looks normal for the most part when its warmed up it look like water and has the consistency of water. My question is how often should the fluid and filter be changed on the 4T65-E transmission? Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,
    Tgarison

I would start with checking your pulleys. You may just have a bad idler pulley that will only cost you $35.

03 GTP...Its got pulleys and stuff.

    Question to the question...

    When was it last changed?

If you don't know or can't answer, then it's probably due!
How many miles on the car? Is the Tranny oil dark? Smell burnt?

My personal opinion is it can't hurt... but don't do a FLUSH... drop the pan, change the filter, gasket if needed. There's lots of write-ups!

Also, I agree, check the pulley's as well. I recently had a squeak in the engine bay too and it was a pulley. $18 quick fix!

    tgarison,

Change both the fluid and filter every 50,000 miles if the vehicle is mainly driven under one or more of these conditions:

    - In heavy city traffic where the outside temperature regularly reaches 90 degrees Fahrenheit or higher.

    - In hilly or mountainous terrain.

    - When doing frequent trailer towing.

    - Uses such as found in taxi, police or delivery service.

If you do not use your vehicle under any of these conditions, change the fluid and filter at 100,000 miles.

I agree with the others, it may be the pulleys. A certified technician will be able to offer a more accurate diagnosis after a physical inspection.
