So today on my way home from work I got stuck in rush hour and I was traveling about 15mph when I noticed that the car started revving at high rpm's and wasn't going anywhere. I pulled over and got a tow home thinking my tranny is gone. Now I'm thinking MAYBE it's the filter, but I would not be surprised the tranny is gone considering I heard it whining. Thought? Car won't go into ANY other gear at all.

a whining trans is usually a bad trans pump.= not good news.

1999 GTP, 173k, looked at the fluid on the side of the road and it looked pretty fresh, still clean and had the transmission color (red tint)

sounds like its hurt, does it always sound so rattly? or is that the trans making all that noise?

That's the trans making all the noise. Just started this sound the first time I started it since I had it towed home. Didn't do this earlier when it stranded me on the highway

Since, I've had noises in transmissions sitting still before, you are correct, it's not good. I've had whining when a filter got clogged, heck..even had loss of all gears.

Looks like from those sounds, that you'll be doing a trans.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
