I brought my 05 Grand Prix (automatic) to a reputable transmission shop in my area about a month back after my tranny began to "clunk" only when up shifting, coupled with having to press the accelerator down farther and uneven acceleration. It would happen once every week or two, less often now, but when I brought it to the tranny shop, the owner said it was most likely an electronics problem (he named a chip of sorts but I can't remember what he called it) that was common in this tranny; wasn't worth the money to replace as it doesn't damage anything (not sure if I should believe him on that).

Does anyone know what this chip is or what's causing the problem and how much I would pay to fix it? Or even better if I could do it myself. I'm planning on upgrading the differential and such soon to have a "mock" HD tranny, along with a shift kit so I can perform a top swap next year and I don't want that problem pooping up again and doing god knows what to my clutch.

Edit: With a little research I also stumbled across a thing called a pressure control solenoid, not sure if that's what he meant, never used the words pressure or solenoid but maybe he was dumbing it down for me...

PCS/EPC are both the same thing. Likely that's what he told you. It's quite common in our transmissions.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

How much time/money and skill would be required to replace it? I've never even touched a tranny before, but I'm a quick learner (at least people say that, maybe they're just trying to be nice )

From what I gather I have to drop the tranny and/or frame in order to access the side panel of the tranny, I don't have the means to raise my car, nor lower the frame...

I feel like at this point it would be easier to get a new tranny or ignore it and let the thing die, PITA

If you don't have a means to raise the car up there is no way your gonna be able to take the trans out.
