okay so the stock trans in my '99 gtp is basically shot. I got a free trans from my teacher at school. Im like 99% sure its a 4t65e, but im no trans expert. The trans I got for free needed rebuilt, so i tore it apart and nearly all the clutches were burnt up and felt gritty. The wavy imput clutch was also broke in 3 pieces. I ordered a master kit w/steels + a new wavy imput clutch. The trans will be getting put back together tomorrow. I ran what i believe the casting number through google and I believe its out of a '98 regal. The number I got from the trans is:

    GM-B
    24209508
    923

Can anyone clarify what this trans was pulled from. And if it is from a '98 regal will it bolt up fine to my '99 gtp (cooler lines and all)?

your stock gtp gears are 2.93.

???? FFDP, you know better, no Regal came with 3.29's. Only things that came that way were GP GT's and Comp G's.

Get the trans info from the tag on the back of the trans by the diff cover. That's how you tell what it is.

If it came from a Regal, it's either a 2.93 HD or a 3.05/3.06 (I can never remember which was 65 and which was 60).

Easy way to tell if it's a 4T65, the main electrical plug will be on the upper driverside of the trans. A 4T60 is on the front.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

There should be a tag by the diff

If not..then you can't 100% know everything about it, because that casting number means very little.

If you pull an pan bolt and it's an M6 bolt, it's 98+, M8 is 97. Beyond that, you'd have to count teeth on the drive/driven gears and the sungear to know the ratio.
