Hey everyone I'm back with some other news. I have a noise in what sounds like my TC but i don't know. I flushed my tranny, and I put in a new filter, and new Dex VI fluid. It shifts amazing, but every once in a while I hear a noise like my Supercharger is spooling up, but it's at like 1500-1800 rpms, but also intermittent. It comes and goes only when I touch the gas. It sounds almost like my power steering pump is going out. That kind of sound. I was thinking maybe play in the SC? I don't know what it is though. It has done it ever since I have had trans problems. I don't like the noise either, it sounds terrible. Thanks for help everyone, you are always a great help!

Probably because you flushed the tranny. People on here say if it hasn't been flushed often, it can ruin a high-mileage transmission. Watch out for it. Add some lucas stuff to the tranny fluid.

Definitely don't flush it again evar! Put lucas in it for now, you might need a new tranny eventually if it worsens.

    UPDATE:

Well, I think my problem might be getting worse. My tranny slips when going around sharp corners. It still wines like my SC is spooling up, but I still haven't put in that lucas oil. I'm avoiding driving it until I get some. I think I am still 1.0 qt Low so I think that Lucas oil will make it a ton better.

Dunno about the slip, but is your Power Steering fluid low?

sounds like the trans pump has gone bad. they like to whine when they go bad.

yeah it's not even going anywhere now. Also, I checked my fluid level, and on the dipstick at idle, warm and it is at the first dot, not the second. I don't know if that makes a difference or not.

I didn't respond because your post didn't give any real info...until yesterday.

Slipping is commonly from low fluid. Then you mentioned you knew you had low fluid. Seems like an easy problem to fix. Stop posting and properly fill the trans.

Then you say something about dots. This makes me wonder, what year/model you drive. On the 97-03's ..I don't recall seeing any dots on a trans dipstick tube.

    Help us help you man..
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

yeah my apologies on the lazy posts BillBoost37. I really shouldn't have made this thread, as I updated on the other one. The "dots" I was explaining was the actual holes on the dipstick, and I assumed that everyone knew what my year was, but assuming makes an "a**" out of "u" and "me" right? lol So basically here are the details.

My '98 GTP 4 door 3.8L V6 Supercharged car is having whining issues in the TC housing where the pump is sitting. Thanks to you though BillBoost37 I have fixed the problem. Here is the result; When changing over a filter and fluid makes sure you buy 5 qts of Dexron IV or Dexron VI. Generally a '98 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP calls for 5 qts. of Dexron IV as is says it in the manual and on the dipstick what type to use. As far as Dexron VI goes, it's recommended for older trans, and even new ones to use the full synthetic fluid. Thanks to everyone for all the great advice. I didn't know anything about my car when I started here, and now I know a little bit

Also again I'm sorry about the lazy posts, and I should have been harder at work reading instead of posting.

No worries about the posts. But if you say it's low and don't fill it..well..

The owners manual should call for more than 5 quarts. I looked at my FSM just the other week for a buddy. When I do a trans service, I automatically buy 2 gallons. If I'm lucky there will be a little more than half a quart left. Typically they take closer to 7-7.5 quarts to refill with a trans pan drop service.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

I have that same sound and my trans fluid is full. And slips. And takes forever to shift between gears once in a while. So congrats on fixing it before it turned into what I have lol.

well I didn't get so lucky lol. I threw the pump out, and sent shrapnel (I know over dramatic haha) all through my trans. NUUUUUUU lol oh well I'll need to pull it out and put in a new one. At this point though I feel like I should go all out with the trans. Also, I looked over my manual and it said 7.4L is needed to fill it up LOL! So I ran it super dry, and killed it. It was starved for fluid and the pump went kaput lol. Totally my fault! Let this be an example to everyone haha Fill your transmissions Properly or else it is GOING TO COST YOU!! lol

Like you said in the message to me. Now you get to use teh tutorial on how to replace a trans.

Honestly.. breaking stuff is a great learning experience. Really helps you remember what not to do. I've learned a lot of things thing way.
