Been doing some searches on this and I know that the cooling lines are the only difference. My question is that can I use the 98 cooling lines that are on the trans I have to place into an 01 GTP.
From what I have seen it will work, but what is with the checkballs? I was reading the 99+ have checkballs in the lines? Will I have a problem or is it a straigh swap. I am assuming the 98 has checkballs in the transimission itself???
    Thanks for the help!

If you use the 98 trans and lines in the 01 you should be fine. Don't take that for gospel, check with Dave at tripleedgeperformance first.

I've done the swap and understand the changes.

The easiest thing to do is pick up a set of 01 lines. Swap them in with the trans. The fitting with the checkball in the 01 is a different size hole than the 98's so you can't simply interchange. The 98 has threaded style line connections at the trans and the 01 will have the click in style. Easiest way is get click in lines and you are all set.

Another thing to consider and i'm unsure when W bodies changed over, but the PNP/gear selector switch would be on top of the transmission in 98. Might not be in 01, I'm unsure. If it's missing, it's easy to swap on from your old transmission. Line up the dot on it and you'd be all set.

The dot alignment can be found in this post. Skip 90% of this and only concentrate on the install of the switch parts.

    thanks for the replies
so if i use the lines that are on the car they will work? I thought the difference is that the 98's thread in to the trans and the 01's snap in or push in?
Is there an adaptor or something I need to buy or am I over thinking this. I have both sets of lines. The 01's are on the car and the 98 trans came with the lines already attached.
I will check the selector when I get home to see but i think they are both at the top.

Durr, sorry. I thougth you were putting the newer trans in teh older car. Apparently my caffination is low.

Swap the 98 lines into the car. Then you will be plug and play as long as your 01 has the black box on top for the gear selector. If not, then follow that thread and you can use the external switch.

Ok so I dropped the 01 trans today, and then went to put the 98 trans in, and the coolant lines do not fit. The ends do not fit inot the radiator, I then tried to put the 01 lines into the trans of the 98 but one of them (with the check ball does not fit). What is the solution for this anyone have an idea.
The 98 lines do not fit into the radiator, and the 01 lines do not fit into the 98 trans. AHHHHH I am stuck for right now.

Your 98 lines are click or threaded at the radiator?

One way is to make your own line. Many of those lines for 98 were two piece. Use the threaded ends at the trans and the click end at the radiator.

Odd though, I've used 98 lines on newer cars and found the click style fitting at the radiator end.

They have threaded ends on both. So I can splice the lines together utilizing the ends i need and then clamp the splice? Will that work/

For a 98 Regal, the lower line was a two piece with a single clamp. Id suggest doubling the clamps or looking into the next year lines. 98 or 99 on the Regal had the click style at the radiator and threaded at the trans.

now you tell me!! I just ruined a radiator trying to get the click at the radiator pulled out for flare/threaded.

The click in pieces are threaded and should come out w/o an issue...I suppose that depends on the manufacturing, but all the stockers I've seen have the screw in clickers.

Just gave some to a couple guys that Advance Auto sent over in a pinch.

Good news. The Trans is out of a 98 Regal, so autozone had the line for a grand prix, and guess what, the trans side was threaded and the raditor side was a clip in, we are in business now for 20 bucks.
But, decided to take the cross over pipe off to get at the trans bolt better adn broke the damn bolts. Install on hold now intill I can figure out how to get them out. but thanks for the help!

Heat and grab then on the backside. There's quite a bit that usually hangs out. Or hit a JY. The trick to getting then out w/o breaking is to loosen them equally. Been there..broke that and succeeded as well.

I have it soaking with PB. I will keep spraying it for the next few days. Then I go on vacation so it will have to wait till I get back. Then I will heat it and try to take it out from the back.

    Thanks
