This same thing is happening to my rebuilt trans. It's got less than 2K on it and I got a TCC circuit stuck on code one morning. Because they couldn't replicate it again when I took it in, they wouldn't fix the problem. I'm just hoping it comes back while the rebuild is still under warranty. It did it on a cold morning, so I may have to wait until the fall.
Do you remember which component they replaced to fix the issue on yours? Or did they do a whole new trans?
L36Pro, I did the same thing as you, replaced EVERYTHING hoping it was an electrical problem causing my bad trans symptoms. Ended up being the trans.
The EPC and TCC solenoids go out all the time in these trans's. It's been shown that the temps are very high in our transmissions, which degrades the fluid at a faster than normal rate, so if you follow the manufacturer's intervals for changing the fluid, it's sometimes not often enough. To prevent the problem once you replace the faulty components, you can add in an external trans. fluid cooler, which will keep the temps down where they should be. The stock cooler is inside the radiator tank closest to the battery, which saved GM money, but doesn't cool enough.
However, if it was me, I'd just throw out the trans and get a TEP built one. If you're gonna have someone else rebuild it, the costs are almost the same.

sooo its the tranny and not the converter? i have noticed some hard shifting... not that im complaining. i like a good kick in the nuts during acceleration.

I have no idea what the problem was man. We went out and recorded the TCC slippage and duty cycle, and called them and told them and they came and picked up the car. They usually just send a whole new transmission and they replace it at my friends shop. But, for some reason they wanted my car at their regional shop. When I got it back, I seen a new transmission. I'm guessing they wanted it there to see if it was a simple fix, if not just replace. Certified transmission is where I got mine from, 50k/36 month warranty for $1200... can't complain.

Re: 3.8, power loss, rpm flux, please help
I think ill just go with an HD from zzp with some 3.67 gears, in that case, as opposed to trying to fix my current trans.

Re: 3.8, power loss, rpm flux, please help
Dude, go with Triple Edge Performance, read the thread on em. They are great and are comparable price.

Re: 3.8, power loss, rpm flux, please help
i think so. i mean mpg would suffer some, buti think id like that little bit of punch
-
Re: 3.8, power loss, rpm flux, please help
No, you don't...because there aren't any 3.67 gears.

Re: 3.8, power loss, rpm flux, please help
so would a new converter just be a waste?
-
Re: 3.8, power loss, rpm flux, please help
Edit your posts...quit multi posting kid.
Why do you need a new converter? It has nothing to do with your gearing...just your off the line stall RPM.

Re: 3.8, power loss, rpm flux, please help
dude, this post was originally about problems with my transmission/converter. why would i need a new converter if my old one is possibly bad?..... who knows

Re: 3.8, power loss, rpm flux, please help
Because 99% of the things your posting make no sense so why would I read 3 pages of nothing?

Re: 3.8, power loss, rpm flux, please help
why would you read it anyways? your not helpful, your just trying to prove my incompitence of the L36, which clearly isnt there. i know a thing or two about these cars. ive got 3 gt's, a lesabre, and an 04 bonneville. all L36

Re: 3.8, power loss, rpm flux, please help
blower whine is the only reason you would switch intakes

You know enough to think the injector clips are different and our intakes are factory fenderwell's.
So that should be enough in itself.

So you would never replace your warped and flawed L36 UIM for an L26 which will never leave you eating coolant?

Never because that makes sense.

Could you tell me about what you recorded? I want to do the same so they can't BS me and tell me there's no problem. Let me know what parameter you read and what values indicate slippage or stuck-on condition, if you remember... Thanks
To OP... I doubt the problem is with the torque converter itself. More likely the TCC solenoid which controls the torque converter lockup clutch.
To others... give him a break, why complain about a 3-page thread that says nothing and make it a 4-page thread that says less?

Re: 3.8, power loss, rpm flux, please help
thanks topwater. is the tcc solenoid an easy repair? im sure pulling the engine is a must, but other than that what can be expected from a repair like this?
MATT, i probably would switch to an L26 intake. provided that it fits up to my hv3. i dont know much about the series III
