Well after being out of the gtp game since my wreck of 09 I scored on a 01 gtp for 1400. It looks great and has a mint interior the only thing is that thee reverse doesn't move the car very well. It takes about 2800 rpm to make it crawl in reverse. To back up a slope is out of the question. I'm hoping it's a cracked piston for the reverse servo but I've never peeked inside these trannys and I don't have all the tools to pull it out complexly ATM. What do you guys think?

Btw I'll try and get pics of her up soon

Makes sense. To pull the cover the FSM says to pry against part of the trans holding fixture (when it's out) and that pushes the cover down. Then pull the ring out and you are looking at the servo. Maybe it's a bad seal
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Is this under the side cover or the bottom cover? Can you even remove the side cover with it in the car without lowering it down?

Welp, it warmed up a little today so I messed around with the car a little bit and I pulled the transmission dipstick. ENGINE OIL IN THE TRANS? WHAT THE ****?! I know I could put the car on ramps, drop the pan, and change fluid and filter but what about all the engine oil in the torque converter and valve bodies? Aside from replacing the trans. what are my options.

How do you know you have oil in the transmission? Reason I ask is that's pretty impossible unless someone dumped it in there.

What is possible is that your fluid is that dark and horrible that it looks like motor oil.

I'm thinking that someone dumped it in there. I pulled both dipsticks. Exact same brown color exact same smell. Doesn't smell fishy like most tranny fluids. I could take a pic but I'm telling you, it's exactly like looking at the engine dipstick

The dipstick on the left is the tranny stick. (Click to enlarge)

Well, I used the tranny's pump to pump clean fluid in with a line popped off. Used about 15 qts. and then dropped the pan changed the filter and all I saw was the thin grey film of metal I usually see in a pan. And guess what, I was wrong. It really was dirty trans fluid. But Once the beast warmed up I still lost reverse. Now I dont want to even mess with it for the rest of the day.

    What's next?

If you look at the top of the trans..there's a round cover on the top towards the gear selector lever. That's the reverse servo cover.

One of two things probably happened. The band broke or the servo is bad, maybe a bad seal on it.

How hard is it to get the crossover pipe off?

Went out there and looked at it. The stupid read manifold has to come off too. Looks like that is going to have to wait a while. I dont have any impact tools or a compressor suited for it right now.
