I have an 04 Pontiac Grand Prix, which I've pretty much been in love with since I got it. I've owned it for just over a year now and have had absolutely zero problems. I guess you can see what's coming here.
Last week, I was driving home from work, stopped at a four way stop, when I pulled away my transmission slipped HARD in to second gear. I thought it was strange, but it kept driving normal for the next few miles and I thought nothing of it. The next stop sign I came to, I waited for my turn, but as I tried to pull away from the stop sign, there was nothing. My engine simply climbed in RPM's and my car just slowly rolled with the grade of the road like it was in neutral...
When I shift it from park in to any gear, you can hear it shift, RPM's lower like it's about to go, the car moves slightly, then just nothing. I have some friends who can replace the transmission for me, but he wants me to ask around first to see if this is a common problem, maybe something electrical or if it's a safe bet just to switch it out.
This all came as a shock to me simply because it gave no signs of going bad. It has never slipped a gear, never made any noises, taken longer than normal to shift, etc. I take very very good care of my vehicle. I even get made fun of by my girlfriend because I drive like an old lady, so it hasn't been driven hard to cause it to break suddenly.
If anyone can offer me any insight it would be much appreciated. Thanks!
