Hello, I went to Auto Zone today and the scanner showed up an issue with a shift solenoid. My 2001 Grand Prix is jerking when I accelerate. Do I have to go to the dealer to fix this? Thanks

Yeah you do. Just found out a little earlier mine is going bad too. No jerking, but when I hit the gas from a stop it revs up and barely moves, then gradually kicks in. The scanner said it was the shift solenoid. It's a $28 part (for my 97 GP GT) but since it goes inside the tranny it's probably gonna cost an arm and both legs to install. If it goes out completely the car will be undriveable, so I suggest you get it taken care of ASAP.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but when mine went it was $800 to fix..... granted this was at the dealership. Thankfully it was still under warranty, whew.

I don't know of anything at all you HAVE to go to the dealer for. If it is just the shift solenoid, any competent trans shop should be able take care of it. Hell, it could be done in a driveway without too much problem.
