To answer you original question yes!!! they are correct, but I don't think it matters if you swap a 97 4l65e with a 2002 4l65e as long as you use the whole unit as far as the comp goes. I'm not going to explain because everyone here is such a genious and they will prove me wrong, but what the shop is trying to explain to you is why mess with refabrication on a unit you think is good when they could rebuild yours for the price they give... which is a fair price!! You can listen to whomever you want, but the cheapest price a shop and i mean SHOP can do your rebuild is just under 2000, so get your tear down estimate and if the price isn't right you got options. You want answers about the real world? these 20 year olds won't help you, but if you want it straight! I'll look at any estimates you have got and point you in the right direction. atra.com is here for you we are a family

Well, no offense but Trannyman is a repair shop, maybe not in the traditional sense in that he has locations across the U.S., but he is a shop and he most definitely below $2000.00 and will turn out a transmission better than any other shop can building it back to factory specs.

Again, no disrespect intended, I dont know if Trannyman is 20 or not, but he certainly is one of if not the most respected transmission builder in our community. Ask yourself why we have two vendors that offer built transmission and yet people NATIONWIDE flock to him to have their transmissions built?

He has consistently provided 'Real World' answers to this community for as long as I have been a part of it.

OK thanks to everyone that helped me out, I have decided to go ahead and get the trans. rebuilt at Pro-trans. They will do a complete rebuild with any updates and such included in the price of $2067.00. Thanks again all of you! I feel better making the decision.

Sounds like you have a problem with people here? Or am I reading that wrong?

but the cheapest price a shop and i mean SHOP can do your rebuild is just under 2000,
Yes, you may be correct for a shop that is going to remove, rebuild, and re-install the tranny. The OP never specified. But I assume that is what the shop would do, and yes, that is a good price.

But for the money, I would take the tranny out myself, since it is not hard, and have Trannyman rebuild it. I think that is what most people here are getting at.

Again, it seems like you have a problem with the people here. I am in my 20s, and while I have never claimed to know it all, I have helped out hundreds of people in this community with what I have learned. And yes, these are real world answers. So just because I am under 30, doesn't mean I don't know what I am talking about...or anyone else for that matter.

These 20 year olds also spend $40,000 on education, work 3 jobs and don't have time or money to waste, or even chance on a junk transmission. I've done my research and Trannyman is where I will be taking mine when it goes.

It might, the output might be pointing the wrong way. Better to use a transversed transmission for these cars.

Anyway, I've got a '99 HD transmission in my '00 SE. I don't remember running across any issues when I installed it, it bolted right up, cooler lines and all.
