Read through a lot of the threads dealing with the 2 problems. So yes, I did search, but still have a few questions.

First off: 2000 GP GT 3.8 of course. Bought the car w/ 175,000 miles.
    Currently pushing 177k
Replaced radiator, collant, hoses, tranny filter and fluid, TPS, plugs, wires, coils, HUBs, and a myriad of other things.

I decided to change the filter and fluid, even though the fluid looked fresh. It was shifting hard after warmed. I mean banging into gear. Also, at WOT, or even close to WOT, it slips in and out of gear. Sort of like you put the hammer down, let off real fast, and hammer down again.

2 different problems? I hear to change the pressure solenoid, but if the tranny is slipping and needs replaced or rebuilt, then I should just wait.

Opinions? I am clueless when it comes to transmissions.

EDIT- I also hear a "whine" almost like a power steering pump whine. I can hear it in park when reving the motor a little or in drive while cruising. (not as noticable) Sounds likeit is more noticeable on the drivers side?

The whine you're hearing is the pump. 4T65's are quite noisy haha. Mine both do it too, nothing to freak out about.. Not really sure the question though. Did this occur after the fluid/filter change? If so, what oil did you use?

The hard shifting and "slipping" was there a day after I bought the car, go figure. That is what prompted me to drop the pan and do the filter and fluid. That did not fix anything.

Just wanting to know if the pressure control solenoid would possibly fix the slipping feel along with the hard shifting.

Like I said, I know squat about transmissions. If doing the solenoid will only fix the hard shifting, and not the "slipping" feel, then I guess I should save the money and get a rebuild or reman.

Just wanting some opinions on the two issues, if they are related or not, and a "what would you do" type question.

Edit- The trans fluid used was Castrol High Mileage ATF...... Should a used something else huh? LOL
