Thread: Im about to order a 3ep trans

I want to get some opinions here...Its about time for a trans, mine is taking a smelly ****. I know I want 3.29 gearing but, what else should I get? I want an upgraded input shaft and 7/8" chain but I've heard the chain will stretch over time so its not ideal for a dd...I am going to be going to the track frequently. Im no where near done modding, I eventually want to trap 110-120.

I was thinking of looking into a torque converter with a higher stall?

As the car sits...

-L36 block
-gen5 s/c with stock pulley
-N*, LQ4 combo
-1.9 roller rockers
-plog, dp combo

I have a desert fox cooler, if i flush it out, do you think its safe to use on my new trans?

It should be ok. They just tell you to flush the factory cooler, so I do not see why yours would be any different.

dave puts the 4T80-e chain in because its stronger than the stock chain we have

Just to clarify here-It is not a 4T80E chain as those are completely different and wont work in a 4T65E. As a base for the dual chain sets and what is included standard on every high performance rebuild is the V8/LS4 W-body 4T65E chain set which is stronger than the original V6 chain set. If you plan to put a lot of miles on the car every year then the dual chain set seems to be the best for longevity, with the V8 chain set that I use that is. The 7/8" chains are stronger but as mentioned above and as I tell everyone thinking of going this route those chains have proven to stretch sooner especially if you plan to use it at the track often with slicks on the car. I had a local guy running 12.3s/12.4s on slicks with the dual chain set, which had 130-140K miles I might add, and he never broken them but we upgraded to the single chain a few years ago as the car was planned to run high 11s thereafter. This car also is still running the original torque converter and HD diff, which now have over 160K miles on them with no problems.
