Trying to change drivers side halfshaft. finally got it off. Now the problem is the new one isnt going on. Spent 4 hours tonight trying to get it on, its about half way on I'd say and thats from nearly screwing the threads up. I dont want to beat on it anymore and it wont go in. Any suggestions would be great. I'm not sure if I can even get it back off. I guess thats the logical next step. Where it sits It cant even be towed.

    Thanks

You should not be having an issue with it. It is held in with a c-clip at the end of the axle. All that needs to happen for the axle needs to go into the housing is for the splined to be lined up and for the clip to compress (wich is usually no problem).

Just make sure you have the axle straight and that the splines are lined up. Compress the CV axle as much as you can by pushing it twards the transmission then tap it further in with a 5 or 10LB hammer.

Thanks for the reply. It got to the point where I did the hammer thing. It about half way in I'd say. Got to the point where the threads are getting bad where the nut goes. I'm very concered now - like you said it may not be lined up or the c-clip is still holding it. Not sure what to do. What if that inside male end is now damaged?

Well you should have put the nut on before you started hitting it. Can you get the nut back on at all?

As far as the splines where it goes inside of the housing inside of the tranny I can not see those getting damaged. So you should be fine.

Let me know if you need anything else.
