The axles do fit pretty sloppy and are by no means a tight fit. The inner cv shaft rides right inside the end of the differential so there is really no bearing or anything for support. There is a bushing in the end of the tail housing that bolts over the differential and this can wear over time also but likely isnt worn bad enough to cause problems. If the inner part of the shaft is worn where it goes into the trans it could cause a little extra slop but not very common to see. I would check over all of the suspension components good to make sure nothing is loose or badly worn. Check the rubber bushings in the lower control arms and also check the upper strut mount plate good as those are both common wear areas that will cause poor suspension alignment under load.
