I have an 02 gtp auto that won't go into drive, but will go into reverse, 1 and 2nd . Lifted car everything looks normal axle wise no slop at differential, but when in 1st gear with car on jacks I can hear wierd noise, any possible help need opinion could it be differential, or rebuild.

Sounds like a broken forward apply band. If you drop the lower pan and look at a windowed out section in the case just behind the filter towards the passanger side you will see the end of the band where the servo pin applies it. You will likely find that the end of the band is broken or there is about a 1" piece of broken band laying in the pan. Not real common but it happens enough that I see it now and then and it seems the 00-03 model years are the worst for this. Unfortunately if the band is broken it means a complete overhaul as it is one of the last parts to come out of the case.

Thks for your support you hit it right on the button thats what it was, do you know if there is a revised upgrade or are they still manufacturing the same band. Again thank you, alot the shop showed me the 1" piece. So I know I'm not getting the run around, keep up your forum support.

I have not had a trans come back with a broken band after installing new ones so I dont know if it was an isolated batch or what the deal was. The only changes that I have seen were a few years ago the friction material was changed but dont see any changes on the metal part itself.
