I started with HPT, bought a DHP along the way etc etc. There's benefits to each tuner and they are each a little incomplete/perfect on their own.
I believe that is was the pulses per revolution on the reluctor wheel. The way he explained it is that it helps the trans calculate input shaft speed versus output speed and if that is off the trans gets all confused.
