92,666 miles as of right now, and she's my project since the wife finally gave me the go-ahead to do "whatever I want" (I have it in writing ). I've been having the "no forward cold/neutral at stops" issue since I got her 2 years ago, but it was only really bad the first 6 months (I hate used car dealerships) but it was in my price range and I needed a car... Two fluid changes about 50 miles apart and two bottles (yes, two quarts) of Slick50 in the last refill has dramatically improved the problem. I will still get a little jump occasionally, but the trans will shift erratically about once a week between 3rd and 4th at about 35mph, and from a rolling stop it just doesn't want to get going unless I floor it. I'm working on collecting the parts for a top swap, and I know the trans won't handle any more stress than its already got. I can get a trans from another 04 with 122k, but the crash it was in was severe enough to snap the dogbones off of the front of the engine. There's also a decent trans shop up here, but pricey and new parts take months to get shipped up here. Would it be worth the trouble to pull the trans from an 02 gtp? I know I would have to swap my current valve body, channel plate, and wiring harness to the 02 trans, but would it be more cost effective to just pull the HD diff and get the input clutch piston and/or whatever else is worn out in my current trans replaced and just swap the diff? I will eventually get a built trans, but I really can't afford too much more than $300-$500 for the trans right now. Since it's still getting me to work and back without leaving me stranded, it's something I can kinda prepare for. Any advice will always be greatly appreciated.
