im thinking of ordering one of the triple edge coolers, but i stuck between the 4" or the 6". i want the 6" for cooler temps in the summer, but worried about low temps in the winter. im from central Oklahoma and temps range from 110ish in the summer. we go multiple weeks where where the highs dont get below 100 degrees. to around just below zero in the winter. it never really stays that cold for that long mainly over night it hits those temps and during the day id say 10-20 degrees is pretty common. any suggestions? ive read where people dont bypass the factory cooler and install the aftermarket cooler before the factory cooler to help raise temps in the winter. seems like a lose lose battle to me.

I would not recommend stand alone cooler in any area that gets cold weather and the car is driven during that period.I installed a large Hayden cooler inline with the factory cooler for my daily driven GXP and it resulted in temps far too cool to be good operating temperatures for the winter(125 degrees). This B&M cooler probably would have given better results.

Either that or any cooler installed with a bypass such as this one.

It's my dd. So it will get driven in those Temps. That cooler is defiantly alot cheaper. I just want it to be done right. Not looking to put a trans in this car not right now anyways.

Never thought of that. I'll keep that in mind. Could probaly make something a little more weather durable. Thanks.

The factory trans cooler on my silverado keeps temps down around 125-140 in the winter if I ever drive it more than 5 miles, which is rare. I do agree with the cardboard over it to stop airflow from reaching it.

Any transmission cooler of decent size will help, I have no experience with the Triple Edge cooler other to say its too expensive for me.The B&M has a cold weather bypass built in, but I have not used it so can not vouch for it.

I have 2 Long (aka Dana) 18,000 GVW double stack coolers with built in temp control that do all the cooling outside of the radiator (the factory radiator trans cooler is by passed) and I drive my car all year round in VERY cold temps in the winter and have no issues-185,000 miles on the 4T65E tranny. The only issue is that the tranny will shift not into OD until about 3 miles of driving. I just take it slow for those first few miles until the tranny shifts into OD. The trans temp run about 125 degrees in the winter and about 145 degrees during the summer. The (2) Long Coolers have been on my car for over 100,000 miles now. Every 4T65E tranny should have a tranny cooler if you want long trans life-the 4T65E runs VERY hot utilizing the factory radiator cooler only. Stay away from the old style tube and fin coolers which are not as efficient and do not have built in temp control design...and change the fluid and filter every 25-30,000 miles....

I have a B&M 70264 sitting here waiting to be installed. Seeing as how the stock cooler can't do its job, the B&M will go stand alone. Besides, with Global Warming being what it is these days, my winters are getting shorter and shorter and warmer and warmer. LOL

I just used that cooler as a reference as it has the bypass, be sure that would be the correct size for you as that is a small cooler.

FYI, the 70255 is what B&M told me to use when I talked to them.

Yes but you are going stand alone. I'm no expert, I can only go by what I have used in the past. Not sure what temps yours gets to, but that cooler is small too. I went big, only wanted to do it once. In the summer it never got over 186 (I had seen 225+ before). My GXP has a 30000 GVWR cooler, my Comp G has a 20000 GVWR cooler.

I was only going stand alone until a few days ago. Nobody new but me until today. LOL

Our cars don't need a lot of cooling, just efficient cooling. In the summer, after 30-45 minutes of freeway driving, I see 200* fast. Went as high as 221* one time with some city driving. Either of the above mentioned coolers will do the job just fine. Reports on other forums report that the 70264 drops temps 20-30*, which is ideal for the GP. I've ran smaller coolers on larger 4x4's with similar results, so I am confident in my choice here. Heck, I've used stock coolers on big trucks and seen WAY better results than the GP stock cooler. LOL

So is it better to go stand alone or in line with factory cooler?
