We bought this car for my daughter about two months ago from a used car lot. Car had 101,000 miles on it. The first two days were just fine but after that we have had multiple issues. First thing was the ABS light came on along with the T/C light. I put a scanner on it and it had four codes for the front left wheel bearing/sensor. I ordered a hub assembly and went to put it on when I noticed one of the wires that goes to the speed sensor had a gash in it. So I went ahead and cut it and re-spliced it and did not put the bearing on. Cleared the codes and was find for the next two days. Now the lights are back on again. I have not been able to get to put a scanner on yet to see if the same code/s come back. I here there is some issue with this. The wire that broke was on the car side and not the bearing side. Not sure if related but when she was turning to the right the brakes would act up. More on that in issue three.
Second issue was one night it felt like it died and then the engine revved and sped up on its own twice then died. Started back up and drove down the road and when I let off the gas pedal coming to a stop it died. Did that two more times and restarted but the last time before we got home it died and would not restart. Scanner showed MAP sensor was bad. Ordered a new one and all was fine for two days. Now light is back on but no issues with how it runs. Need to get to a scanner and see whats going on.
Remember the last statement in the first paragraph. So tonight my daughter comes in and says that she had pushed on the panel under the steering column with her knee and it died on her. It restarted and she went to her friends house and when she got there she pushed on the panel again to see if it would die again. It did. Two months with this car and all these issues. Thought I had fixed the two issues and they lights came back on and now have a new issue. Is this newer model of Grand Prix prone to these problems. Getting really tired of it already. Have any of you come across any of these issues. I have heard that the speed sensor wiring has been replaced on a few of these as it may be a problem but also here about the hub assemblies needing replaced too.
Can anyone give me some insight as what I am looking at. I can probably get a scanner tomorrow and check it out in the evening on two of the issues. Not really sure what to think about the car dieing when you push on the dash panel under the steering column. Could this be tied in with the brake problem when turning? I really hope this is not one of those wiring nightmare vehicles. Any help would be appreciated. This is my daughters car and want it safe for her to drive.
