Well its been a long process but today I got my dash piece and the HUD projector should be here tonight! Think I'm ready with everything. Wiring harness made and installed (tapped into IP), switch and new console installed a few months ago. Ready to cut and install! I think tomorrow is gonna be the day though... not enough time left tonight to get to it. I have nav, so figuring out how to get the nav signal from the unit to the BCM was... um... difficult. I guess ill find out if I got it right when everything is installed.
Question/concern that I've come across, don't know why my switch is not illuminated. Its plugged in to the IP, but obviously I haven't installed the HUD yet. Hard to say if it working. Anyone else have a switch installed that didn't light until the HUD was in?

Success! Got the HUD installed today. A few issues though... #1 my switch does not illuminate, but it does work otherwise, so I'll replace it at some point in time. No biggie. #2 is that I am not getting signal from my nav unit/radio to the HUD. Thought I had the wiring from the nav to the bcm correct, but evidently not. Going to look into this further and will report back with the solution so if anyone else does this install they'll know how to make it work properly.
I connected to the grey wire that goes to the instrument panel that's what I tapped into

Yeah, to be clear, there is a way to get the signal from the nav to the bcm, but I'm not sure how to do that. I know the bcm is passing the DIC signal to the HUD, so its not a bcm issue. Some connection needs to be made so that the nav/audio unit gets the proper signal for turn-by-turn directions and radio info to the HUD. There will be a connection from the XM harness on the nav unit, and I assumed it would go to the vehicle speed signal wire connection, but there are 4 wires going into the bcm that are the same color (green) as the vehicle speed signal input wire. I may have got the wrong one. I'll figure it out at some point.
Curious, did you guys all just get a different console, or just tap a hole in your existing one for the HUD switch?
Drilled hole above ash tray and that's where switch is at on mine.
Ah, okay. I prefer the spot where your's is at, so I might just do that.
"I was lucky enough to obtain a wiring harness for the HUD and adjustment switch, so fortunately it was all just plug n' play after I wired everything together correctly."
So..., how much should I have the guy I'm buying this from hack into his wiring harness for me?
I pm'ed you
As much wire as possibly for the part that plugs into the hud and then the entire center consul harness
Yup, got your PM.
Okay...., thanks.
I bought a console off eBay that had the switch and switch-to-IP wiring already in it. I wanted to replace my console anyway because the prior owner had gotten cig burns around the ashtray and it bothered the **** out of me. It was like $75 and the console I bought was like brand new. So it all kinda worked out.
You have your wiring connectors? If not I have a HUD connector and an IP connector I pulled out of a car at a junkyard that you're more than welcome to. Pulled 2 sets because its nice to have extra in case I ****ed something up, but now I don't need the extra set.
Figured I'd give a wrap up on my situation as it is now solved. Background is that my GP is an 05 GT that had OEM nav from the factory but no HUD. I installed the HUD but wasn't getting radio and nav signal to display on the HUD. After a lot of failed attempts at solving it, I went to the dealer. Asked them to program the RPO for the HUD (UV6) so the PCM would see the signal from the radio and send it to the HUD. They pushed back and said they wouldn't do it because according to them the 05 doesn't get nav directions on the HUD, which I knew was bull**** because it states it in the service manual but it doesn't say how to program it. So I had them check the build sheet to make sure the nav was factory installed, and it was. That means the signal is there but the PCM doesn't know to send it to the HUD because it doesn't know the HUD is there. Went to another dealership, asked them to reprogram, they did, and it worked.
So, if you have nav and add HUD, you have to get a reprogram to get HUD online and accepting the nav signal to display turn by turn directions and radio station data . And vice versa, if you have HUD and decide to add factory nav, you'll have to get a reprogram to get the nav online too.
Good information to have. Any one have a spare five button dic?
Check car-part.com? There's a few for $35 in Kansas City.
