Thread: Lowered Seats?

Hi all,

I was auto-xing my GTP last Sunday, and found that even with the seat all of the way down, my helmet doesn't quite clear the sunroof trim. Does anyone know if its possible to readjust/ modify the seat brackets to make them about 1/4"-1/2" lower? Thanks!

do you have the factory seats still?

i would get some aftermarket racing seat and make a mount for them it wouldnt be to hard.

Aftermarket's would be ideal, but I'm keeping this car showroom stock (except things like dogbone flip) until the bank gives me the title. I'll just deal with the lack of headroom for the time being.

the 97-03 seat would probably help then, you can get them in the same color and for cheap...at least till you get the title

He said it was for autocross. You can't just put the seat where it fits for that. You need it in just the right spot. I'm 6' 4" and in order to fit without a helmet, I had to put the seat in a terrible position.

I'm 6'0 and have a ton of room with a helmet like 3-4 inches if not more

Yes, i have a sunroof, and side-curtain airbags. I can tilt the seat back, but then the steering wheel is too far away. From what I've always heard, you want the seat back positioned so that when your shoulders are against the seat, your knuckles rest on top of the steering wheel. If I move the bottom of the seat forward to allow me to tilt the seat, my knee intrudes into the steering wheel's space when I use the brakes. If I had a telescoping column, all of this would be moot since I could stretch it an inch and call it a day, but I don't, so I'm looking for a way around.

If I have time this weekend, I'll look at the power adjustment on the seat and see if it can be massaged any. There's a bit of space left between the seat trim and the floor, so if I can find a way to drop the seat, I will.

when your shoulders are back, your wrists should rest on the steering wheel, arms extended. your legs should be just slightly bent when the pedal is fully depressed. For a tall guy like me, that's impossible even without a helmet.

you cant drive if you cant do it with a detroit lean. you gotta look out the back quarters, not the doors.

wrists on the steering wheel? Yeah, that ain't gonna happen in the GP in this lifetime. I'll just do the best that I can with it until I get something more suited to auto-x/ track days.
