Well the day has come; I could really use someone’s wisdom. In my recent attempt to install cup holder LEDs (similar to Abrasive’s write-up) I failed open. Going into the project I thought how hard could it be to remove the armrest console? Well for me impossible without smashing it with a hammer.

Anyway, I removed all the fasteners I could find. The (4) T15 screws in the bottom of the storage compartment. And the (4) 10mm bolts from the sides of the armrest console. This loosened it up, but it is still anchored somewhere rear of the shifter. I tried as much wriggling and brute force as I felt I could get way with, I still can’t get the console to move more than an inch.

Bare in mind I did a fairly through search of this forum and the internet. I came up with squat. One thing I do know is the removal procedure is much different for a 04-08 than for a 97-03. Help!?!

when i put led lights in my cup holders i did the same exact thing as you. when i tried pulling up while looking down the center console i could see that it looked like there were clips holding it in. I ended up not removing the cupholder and just squeezed my arms under the center console/arm rest and did all the work under there. It was a ***** to do but turned out great.

    From manual:

    1. Apply the park brake.
    2. Remove the floor console bolts from the sides of the console. Adjust the front seats as required.
    3. Shift the transaxle to 2.
    4. Remove the screw from the shift handle. Remove the shift handle.
    5. Pull the floor console rearward slightly. Disconnect the electrical connector at the front of the floor console.
    6. Remove the floor console.

I’ll give it another shot using this information.

Hm... I'm pretty sure that'll get your front bit up. If you're trying to ge tthe box out, I think you can pull the panel off the backside that's in the backseat region. Maybe you're just getting choked up on connected wires.

Just a little follow up. I attempted to remove the console with Slow’s tips, unfortunately that didn’t get me any further. There is a lot more to step 6 than just "remove" it. From my attempts the key seems to be in actually dismantling the console, because after you remove all the fasteners it is still held in place. Removing the end piece seems to be the first step in dismantling it. However I’m not an interior guy, and the design of the whole unit seems to be snapped together. The fastening devices seem like a one time deal. Anyway I have officially given up baring any addition info.
