I just picked up my '05 base Grand Prix today. It only came with one remote. It has the number "2" on the back side. If I had the "1" remote as well, do these numbered remotes mean I can have different things programed to each remote? ie - radio stations, power seat, mirrors.

I flipped through the owners manual once and didn't find anything. I also searched here and I may be using different search terms as I'm not having much luck coming up with an answer.

As far as I know, it simply means set #2. We have several Chevy pickups at work with keyless entry and they each have two sets of keys. They have 1 and 2 on the back of the fob.

You can have up to four remotes coded for your car. If you look on the back of your remote it should have a GM/L #. That number has to match on all the remotes, and I can pretty much guarantee that any 2002 remote won’t be compatible. Also, I have never heard of a GP with individual presets (for seats/mirrors and such) depending on what key/remote you use. I recently set up a spare remote for my car, expect to pay at about $20 bucks for the remote and $50 to have the dealership code it. And yes the dealership has to code it, but who knows they might do it pro gratis. Also be aware that if you buy the remote from a dealer it will cost about $100, I bought mine from Midwest Keyless for much less.

Ten years of continuous driving excitement and counting!

Also, I think I read here you can buy the PK3 key on e-bay and program it yourself if you follow the steps posted. The key was $10 or so when I looked into getting a spare.

Ekeys comes to my dealership several times a week. Next time I see him I'll ask what it'll cost for another key and remote. Thanks.
