Wow, all that Chicago stop and go like h#!! driving probably gets your engine super hot in the summer welding those puppies on. I replaced my wires at 40K, and I took out my fire starter POS wire holder at the same time.

You talking about the plastic part that hold the front wires close to the engine or the 3wire small clip?

    Both

Those stock clips are made for 7mm wires, I didn’t want to pinch my beautiful new wires to death

ok, i get the thing with the plastic holders, with the metal retainer, can you just remove it when you replace spark plug wires? I'm gonna get the MSD 8.5mm wires, so the boots should stay on more than well enough that that metal piece isn't needed right? would that metal piece even fit correctly anymore with the MSD Wires?

Well, to remove it you need to remove the left side dog bone. And then remove the vertical mount support thingy. (ya I know I’m not a mechanic!) The parts you need to remove are obvious once you look at it. The BIG TIP in getting it out is there is a “secret” clip holding the POS in place on the left side. Just reach down and pull the clip away from the valve cover, and it will come out with zero force.

And the “metal piece” you’re talking about, do you mean the boot heat shields? If so, yes, I re-used them. Do you need them? Maybe not. But they are a good piece of assurance you don’t melt down a boot.
