I have a possibility of moving from my 97 GTP to an 04 CompG. Curious who has made that move and what your gripes are. I know that space is more limited in the 04+, especially in the backseat. I still prefer the body styling of the 97-03. But it would be a pretty good deal and would get me into a car that's 7 years newer and with 80,000 less miles.

then you would have to start modding everything all over again.........LOL. It is completely up to you.........is the jump worth the money or not? I personally drove an 04 comp G and didn't like it. Didnt seem to pull as hard, and the tranny was slipping at 55K miles.........but its your money, your choice

Well I've never actually been in a newer gp but I know that I like the body style of the 97-03 gp better. The problem I've always had with these cars are the plastic lookin interior. Looks kinda cheap u know? But I like the newer gp interior better. I wouldn't mind havin a comp g. Its not just the engine its also the paddle shifters and suspension stuff pontiac did to it. Plus they r a little more rare. I dunno if it would be worth it or not. Honestly I love my gtp but if I get rid of it I'm gettin a v8 car. I've grown fond of superchargers after havin this car cause they mod different then n/a cars.

Well, my friend's shop actually bought it put a motor in it, so I'd probably be moving over whatever I could. Some of the things I've read is that they don't feel like they pull as hard, but it's just smoother than the 97-03s, so if you're actually in a race, you'll accelerate the same, it just doesn't throw you back the same way. He's got it running, so I'll be stopping out in a day to take a look at it.

I did it. Those exact years. haha
    i had a 97 GP GT and moved up to a 04 GP GT2.
I love it. The only thing I miss, is again... the backseats.
I prefer the front seats in the new one but those backseats from the 97-03 gp's will never be beat by any others. haha
I've had NO problems with the 04 yet either, but I may just be getting lucky.
I don't regret the switch though, that's for sure. Such a reliable car that I plan
on keeping it for years. especially now that it's creeping on extinction : )

haha i also just went froma 97 gt to an 04 comp g.. i love the switch the comp g's are a little quicker from the gtps... again nothing to do with the paddle shifters but the suspesion helps and im pretty sure it has slightly different final gear ratios the interior seriously feels 10x better in the newer cars and i was more in favor of the 97-03 body styles.. but i tell you this new one is growing on me more and more every day

I have a 99 and a 01...I LOVE the new style! And whoever said they don't get up and go is crazy! The car pulls hard! I think the only down fall and its not really THAT big..is no room in the back seat and I believe its a lil heavier then the older style. But the plus..ur getting the the Gen V hehehe.

I have to admit off the line my olds pulls harder than my grand prix....its the drive by wire crap on the L32 and the way the stock pcm is programmed to run it i think

Also the olds is a N/A car....the 4T60e is starting to show its age tho....and the rust from the underside is a bit frightening...

Well, I'm making the switch. Great deal that I couldn't pass up, plus I have someone already lined up for my old car. On top of that, I get to take the 97 back to stock and move everything over to the 04. A little bit of tuning and I think it'll be a good move. It'll have a new motor and tranny in it when I get it back, so it'll be like a brand new car!
