You should be good with vs cam and not much modification needed to use it which means less things to worry about I'd u need to go back to stock.
Im currently taking the class to get my smog license so im very up to date on current smog laws. Have you found out if u need a smog check, smog only, or visit a smog ref yet? Oh and that car had been on cl for over a week but it was hard to find because it was under the parts section or entire post instead of title only or something like that.

Well there are a couple other reasons they could send u to a ref. Like to make you a new emissions label, check if a motor swap was done right. Or to functionality test california required smog equipment on an out of state car that originilly had a federal emissions label, or simply when a smog tech doesnt know what to do with it he may refer it to thr local ref.

I take my classes at south western community college, i also take my smog class there. The smog ref responsible for south san diego county works in our automotive compound. Ive seen this guy be the nicest and the most helpful smog technician. And ive also seen him hold cars for hours till he finds something not stock, even though the cars pass tailpipe emissions with flying colors. Youve lucked out big time only needing a smog check for an out of state transfer. Your next smog in 2 years will be a smog only, my car was from indiana and thats what they did to me. A smog only will screw you over bad. faking a regular smog check is becoming difficult because the b.a.r and epa
are getting good at catching dirty smog tests because theyre sending in undercover
customers to persaude techs with cash. Goodluck.

The junk yard i speak of is pick your part in chula vista, south san diego. Over the last 2 years ive noticed the number of l67's ending up in the regular priced you-pull lot
increase consistently. The difficult part is getting to them before some idiot destroys
them while in pursuit of some 4 dollar part. I go often and can keep you updated.

I did manage to get a thrasher cold air box and a 9 inch k&n with 4 inch diameter inlet forr 20 bucks at the brown field ecology. But that was super lucky and will never happen again. At the very momeny there isnt a great supply of l67s in pyp. Only ones that are burned up from the valve cover leak.
But the last few times theyve stocked the lot ive found atleast 4 l67's with usable parts. There will usually be only 1 gtp, 1 bonneville ssei and the other 2 buicks. Ive found that consistent low milage parts come off the buicks, they seem to end up in junk yards with less miles. Ssei's have a ton of miles on them and parts are questionable. But the gtp's will usually br either burned up, or wrecked. I stumbled across my motor early one morning right aftet stocking the lot. A gtp with low miles that was rearended. I never planned to pull a motor or even wanted a complete extra motor but i knew that the circumstances were rare so i needed to spend the morning pulling it and end up being a bit late to class lol

$315. Ive come across quite a few of these but this one gave me good signs. Like purolator 1 filter, no endplay in supercharger new gaskets, freeze plugs looked new. Not a spec of oil. I hand cranked a relative compression test and hit 60 psi all the way across. Ive already used the a/c compressor off it plus freon from school now im ice cold. I did a lim job on the motor, lightly port lower intake. Port supercharger lightly with stock pully. Ohms tested injectors, blue tab ohm tested coil packs. Stock exhaust manifolds/crossover bull**** down pipe, my old stock cat, u bend and o2 sensors. Just a freebreathing california smoggable l67. I have a smog only test in a month and a half.im very happy i plannef ahead

    Hello all,
Fellow San Diego 3800 owner. Well recently purchased at least. Just got my 99 GTP on 11/11/12. Im not much on the car knowledge as many of you seem to be but hope that I may be able to pick your brains from time to time if thats ok. Any tips, how to's, or basics be sure to or not to advice will be welcome. Im more a computer guy.

Got mine of craigslist as well and mostly now doing some basic oem type fixes, ( door panel parts, and fixing minor stuff previous owner let slide)
Saw the tip on the pick your parts spot down in Chula and will check that out. Found another lot down there called Daves III, they have about 5-10 3800's out there. Just if any of you are looking for alternatives as well.

Not familiar with all the ins and out and lingo yall are using but trying to catch up and learn. Would love to see what you folks are working with sometime. Will add some pics of mine soon, nothing impressive but it runs well and is a work in progress.

I live in the La Mesa area near Fletcher PKWY.

I use to live across from the bowling alley on flether PWY, now i live a few blocks down on 1st and broadway.

If u just purchased the car I would change the spark plugs & wires, check the battery & ALT voltage, change cabin/air filter, make sure nothing is loose/damaged on the suspension, check breaks, and most imp check/change all fluids and then you go from there...

Thanks for the advice, really appreciate it. Would you know a good honest or decent shop you could recommend?
