I have the Spyder Projection headlights in a '02 GP.
There are H1 HID bulbs in the projectors now. 1 has burnt out.
I ordered H1 HID bulbs from Diode Dynamics and they are not the correct HID bulbs for the Spyder headlights. The base is different.
What is the correct HID bulb for these headlights?

You'll have to trim the back of the projector iirc for it to fit, because the projector was made for an h1 halogen and not an HID bulb

I got my H3 special made HID kit (short and thinner bulbs) from Xtralights online, they are the only vendor with custom HID kits that would work with aftermarket projector headlights.

Sorry, forgot to update this thread that I started...

I started this thread by asking what is the correct size bulb for the Spyder Projection headlights. The reason I had to ask this is because when I ordered the Spyder headlights back in 2008, they sent me H1 HID bulbs to use in the headlights, but these went bad after a few years. I called Spyder company and they sent me more H1 HID bulbs.
So I was all set for quite a while.
Then, in June, I had those bulbs from Spyder go out on me, and when I called Spyder again, they told me they don't sell or even recommend putting HID bulbs in their projection headlights.
I was like "what"? I ordered H1 HID bulbs from them in the past. Obviously, they have new staff and they don't have a clue what they are selling.
So, I figured I would just order new H1 HID bulbs from another reputable company and some on here recommended Diode Dynamics. I placed the order with them, and they sent me the incorrect bulbs. I have no idea why they did this. They sent H3 HID bulbs, which is not what I ordered, and due to the base on the bulb, these will not work.
I called them and they sent me H1 HID bulbs which I plugged into the projectors, and have been using them since July. I have had no problems with these bulbs. They seem so much brighter than all the previous bulbs I have used in these projectors and I have not had them flicker on me or not light up.
I am not sure what all the others responses were about, like trimming the back of the projector. I just plugged in the H1 bulbs and they worked. They light output is amazing compared with the stock halogen headlights.
Also, there is some saying that there are special HID bulbs now being made for the Spyder Projectors. Maybe the newer style projectors are made different than the older projectors which I have.

I'd say it's the opposite. Maybe their new staff is actually smarter and know what they're talking about. Hallogen projectors perform better with halogen bulbs. I know you want the HID bulbs for the looks, but they know what will perform better as far as optics and real light output. That's prolly why the new staff has that stance...

Or am i wrong? Are they hallogen projectors or HID projectors?

Might be a lower wattage. I deal with Beamers HID's here, and I have had many a conversation with them about HID bulbs in Spyder type projectors. They have seen a lot of melted and burnt housings, along with very poor light output.

I guess I made the purchase of the Spyder Projection Headlights so that I could have HID light output. I never knew that these projection headlights were actually designed to be used with halogen bulbs.
In the original Spyder Projection Headlights I bought back in 2008, I have over 118,000 miles on them. I have used H1 HID bulbs in them since I installed them in 2008. I have not seen signs of problems with the projector housings. Nothing melted or burnt. The light output is much better than the stock (halogen) headlights. It is also better than stock headlights with HID bulbs. That was the HID setup I had in my GP before I purchased the Spyder Projection headlights.
Of course, the headlights have taken a beating in the 7+ years I have used them. There are cracks in the clear plastic from stones hitting them. And there is discoloration issues, but that don't matter to me.
In the near future, Classy retrofits are going to be installed, after the loan goes through.

I had his retrofits. I'd recommend either doing it yourself or find someone local or a local shop so they can be lined up using your car, otherwise the alignment with how they're mounted will be off.

I'm half way done doing my first set.

This would only apply to somebody that hasn't done GP retrofits before. Somebody like Classy has done many and has templates so he knows where things need to be. A local shop wanted my car for 8 hours, just to align the projectors.

I actually got a set of Spyder projector headlights with pre-installed HID kit from http://www.xtralights.com/all-produc...ies/headlights I took out the HID bulbs and found out that it's different than the regular H3 HID bulb used in the other aftermarket HID kits out there. Their HID bulbs are shorter and thinner than the typical H3 HID bulbs. I guess the aftermarket projector is so small that it is too large for regular H3 bulb so they special make the compact HID bulb for Spyder projector headlights.

I highly recommend you get rid of those Spyder lights. I bought some for my 2004 Grand Prix from Pro Tuning Labs, and I had to find out the hard way that they are the definition of junk. You should get some new OEM's and retrofit them.
